Earlier this month I recorded songs for the “cast album” of the new children’s musical “The Dancing Princesses.” The play is loosely based on the well-known fairy tale with book by Allyson Currin and music & lyrics by Chris Youstra. It was developed in conjunction with the children’s theatre “Imagination Stage” in Bethesda, MD where it will get it’s first full stage performance beginning in April.
Although I am unable to join the show this Spring, I did participate in the workshop of the play last year. And so I was invited back to once again portray (and sing) the role of the King – father of the aforementioned princesses. I had a great time with the two solos (Dancing and Better Wake Up Reprise), duet (Holes In Their Soles) and various group numbers. Everyone in the process was great to work with. We had a tremendously talented cast, including Jessica Ball, Felicia Curry, Carole Lehan, Kevin McCallister, and Chris Sizemore. Composer/lyricist Chris Youstra was music director. Director Kate Bryer was on hand for dramatic consultation. The very patient David Blackstone served as sound engineer.
No news yet on when the CD will debut, but I believe the goal is to have it out by mid April. I’ll definitely share that info as soon as I know.
