Well, I’ve done it again. I submitted a whole clump of new songs to the U.S. Copyright Office. It’s all very exciting for a fairly new songwriter like me. Seriously, a year ago I didn’t have ONE song to submit. And now I have more than enough for an entire album. Not that I’ll be recording that album any time soon.
I promise not to bore everyone each time I submit something. I haven’t, in fact. But this group was a good one. So, I’m jazzed about it.
And, again, the whole process at the Copyright Office is pretty simple online. I did some more of my “guerilla style” recording (just me and a guitar at home). Got all the songs into .mp3 format. Went online to their website. A few minutes and $35 later, I’ve submitted my songs for copyright protection. Yeah!
And, by the way, in this day and age where phones are digital video and audio recorders, etc. , it seems prudent to be circumspect on the rights front. So, if I’m going to be performing my songs publicly, I’m going to be applying for copyright protection. Not that anybody else would actually want credit for writing my songs. LOL Still, an ounce of prevention and all that.
