Sweet! Just got an email telling me that my song “Your Eyes” has received Honorable Mention in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest which is sponsored by the Songwriter’s Association of Washington but open to songwriters everywhere.
Realizing that I’ve only been writing songs for a bit over a year, I am psyched that industry professionals have recognized my work as merit-worthy. I mean, “Your Eyes” was about the 5th song I wrote – period. And it was strong enough to get a positive response in a songwriting contest. You gotta know that makes me smile.
Oh, I know I didn’t “win” in the true sense of the word. Folks who have been at this longer than me and who had the money to professionally produce their tracks probably took all the top honors. That’s OK. I didn’t have the cash or tools to do anything but a rough take of me and my guitar. But guess what? I haven’t stopped writing, and I won’t. Even more so now. And I soon will have some songs professionally produced and recorded, and then … I’ll be even more competetive than ever! Ha!
