The outstanding production of Candide at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC finished it’s run on January 9. Joe was working as an understudy on the project, covering several of the men’ts roles for this show which originated at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.

Joe did make his Shakespeare Theatre debut during the run, going on twice the day after Christmas in a small role he wasn’t even slated to understudy.   If you didn’t get to see this highly entertaining farce run amok on the Harman Theatre Center stage with beautiful music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by a “Who’s Who” of the best 20th Century songwriters, you’ll have to watch to see if it’s remounted elsewhere on the East Coast.  Directed and re-imagined from Voltaire by Mary Zimmerman with music direction by Doug Peck (no relation), this show deserves to be seen.
